Types of Portland Cement



Type I - Normal everyday use

Type IA - Normal, Air entrained

Type II - Moderately sulfate resitant; ideal for use in bridges and pilings; also used when heat build up is an issue

Type IIA - Moderately sulfate resitant, air entraiend

Type III - Quick hardening with high early strength; used mostly in winter and for rush jobs

Type IIIA
- High early strength, air-entrained.

Type IV - Slow hardening and low heat producing; used when the amount and rate of heat generation must be minimized.

Type V
- High sulfate resistant; used in high water and soils with high alkali content.
